Althea Morocco: its new campaign for eye and dental health in the provinces of Khouribga and Fkih Ben Saleh

The Althea Foundation, active in Morocco since 2002 in the field of eye and dental health, organized a medical campaign last May 15 to 17 in favor of schoolchildren in Ouled Azzouz (Province of Khouribga) and Ben Oukil ( Province Fkih Ben Saleh). 1918 students have benefited from visual acuity tests, performed by volunteer ophthalmologists and opticians. 108 students have undergone extensive reviews and refractive ophthalmologic exams, and 39 of them were fitted with glasses. The campaign has also identified a case of congenital cataract (complete or partial clouding of the lens) in a girl of the town, and resulting operations will be further supported by the Althea Foundation. Awareness sessions for oral hygiene were administered by volunteer dentists to the students. Dental extraction was performed on 347 children in need and 34 others received special dental care. Finally, hygiene kits (toothbrush and toothpaste), offered by Colgate, were distributed.

We thank all the volunteers for their dedication and professionalism, and the Alliance of Senior executives OCP Khouribga, who assured prior screening, and coordination and logistics of the whole operation on field. A big thank you to the local authorities and elected bodies in the region, mainly to the regional and provincial officials of the health department in the region of Chaouia- Ouardigha and Tadla-Azilal, without whom this process could not have taken place
