2017

January - Optical and ophthalmic campaign in the Sidi Bernoussi prefecture (Casablanca) –  552  primary and secondary school students examined ; 280 primary and secondary school students selected for eyeglasses (to be provided by Provincial Health Delegation)

2016

January - Optical and ophthalmic campaign in the municipalities of Jekma, Mediouna, and Dar Dmana – 82 primary school students equipped with glasses

January - Optical and ophthalmic campaign in the municipalities of Laouamra and Souaken – 1252 primary schoolchildren screened, 24 equipped with glasses

January - Cataract campaign in Biougra, province of Chtouka Ait Baha, on January 29, 2016. Partners: Clinique de l’Oeil, Ministry of Health, Bausch & Lomb (donated 100 intraocular implants and 100 viscose) and local association Bouchouaryin. 78 operations performed

February - Optical and ophthalmic campaign conducted in the towns of Oualidia (province of Sidi Bennour), Sbiate (province of Youssoufia), and Sidi Bou Othmane (province of Rehamna). 1662 primary schoolchildren were screened, and 111 were equipped with glasses. A traumatic cataract was detected in an 11 year-old girl – consultations and surgeries to follow.

February - Optical and ophthalmic campaign conducted in partnership with  the Association des Hors Cadres de l’OCP (ACO) and the OCP Foundation. The campaign took place in the schools  Khiarate, Souk L’Khemiss and Ouled Azzouz (province of Khouribga) and the schools Beni Oukil and Ouled Sassi (province of Fqih Ben Saleh), screening 804 children for visual acuity and general health thanks to the presence of 3 general doctors from OCP. 21 students were equipped with free glasses. One case of total cataract was detected in a 9 year-old boy, who will be followed by ACO and Althea for an operation.

February - Sent a stock of 5650 mineral lenses and 380 pairs of recycled glasses to CERAB (Center for Education and Rehabilitation of Bangui) in the Central African Republic thanks to the cooperation of Ramstein Optik in Basel and the project Opportunity Recycling in Ophthalmology. In 2012, Althea previously sent them new reading glasses and frames.

CERAB has an optical workshop and a sales booth at the central market in Bangui, where they also sell handcrafts made by the blind. It is the only institution that provides affordable eyewear for all segments of the population and these sales allow them to partly cover the costs of their activities for the blind, as well as community-based rehabilitation.

February - Organization of fundraising to support a corneal transplant operation for Abdou, a 13 year-old boy from a village near Agdz (Ouarzazate, Morocco). The operation took place on February 5th in a specialized clinic in Tunis.

March - Optical and ophthalmic campaign conducted in the towns of Beni Drar (province of Oujda) and Kharoba (province of Berkane). A visual acuity screening was performed for 1787 primary schoolchildren, and 84 were equipped with free glasses.

 

April 2016 :   Optical and ophthalmological campaign carried out on 12 May 2016 in the municipality of Tata. 700 primary school children screened at the visual acuity scale- 42 equipped with free glasses.

Optical and ophthalmological campaign carried  out on 28, 29 and 30 March in the municipalities of Sifa and Tinejdad (province of Errachidia) and Tarmight (province of Ouarzazate). 2387 primary school children screened at the visual acuity scale – 172 equipped with free glasses.

Optical and ophthalmological campaign carried  out on 17 and 18 March in the municipalities of Guettaya (province of Beni Mellal) and Aghbalou N’Cerdan (province de Midelt). 1364 primary school children screened at the visual acuity scale – 62 equipped with free glasses.

Optical and ophthalmological campaign carried  out on 10 and 11 March in the municipalities of Ribat El Kheir and surroundings (province of Sefrou). 2197 primary school children screened at the visual acuity scale – 144 equipped with free glasses.

May 2016 : Optical and ophthalmological campaign carried out on 12 May 2016 in the municipality of Sidi Boulaalam, School Aghissi, in partnership with the association Maroc Initiative – 19 students  equipped with free glasses.

September 2016 : equipping and openning  a pre-school unit at Cheikh Laidi school – 23 children from 3 to 5 years have registered to this preschool.

October 2016 : Day activities in Dar Dmana primary and preschool education in  partnership with Club Rotaract Horizon and Yanbow Al Kitab edition. Realization of mural fresco on a wall of the school by volunteer artists, collection of books and creation of children’s library, workshops reading and stories by the director of Yanbow Al Kitab edition

November 2016 : Free ophtalmic campaign for Syrian refugee children in Lebanon in partnership with the associations EMCO, World Sight Association, Social Support Society. 10,000 children screened with the visual acuity scale, 1079 children examined – 419 children equipped with free glasses (524 eyeglasses distributed). 2015

May- Ophthalmological, optical and oral hygiene awareness campaign in eight primary schools in the municipalities of Tissa, Ain Beda and Ain Cheggag, Morocco, made possible in partnership with the Ministry of Health and the OCP Foundation. 1887 children were screened (raw visual acuity) and received information on oral hygiene, and 177 students were equipped with corrective lenses.

October- Ophthalmological and oral hygiene awareness campaign in Morocco in partnership with the Ministry of Health. 1211 primary school children from the municipalities of Abu Lkhal and Figuig were screened for raw visual acuity and received information on oral hygiene. 156 students were equipped with corrective lenses.

November- Optical and ophthalmological campaign in the municipalities of Sidi Yahya Zaer (Skhirat province) and Laayoune Tizgha Aine (Benslimane province, Morocco). 1446 children were screened, 98 of whom were found to have a problem.

December- Optical and ophthalmological campaign in the province of Laayoune (schools in the towns of Marsa, Laayoune, Tafoudart, Foum El Oued and Tchira). 2910 primary school children were screened for raw visual acuity and 327 were equipped with glasses. December- Optical and ophthalmological campaign in the communes of Ain Karma and El Hajeb, 721 primary school students benefited from a raw visual acuity test, 28 were equipped with glasses.

 2014

May - Correction campaign for visual impairment. Care and prevention of oral diseases to the schoolchildren in the provinces of Khouribga and Fkih Ben Saleh July-August - Support of a Mauritanian family whose daughter, 8 years old, was diagnosed with retinoblastoma (cancer of the retina). The family was hosted for several weeks in the home of Nezha Drissi, founder of Althea, pending operation that took place in the Ophthalmic Hospital of Lausanne.

2012

January – Paid the salaries of 7 teachers of CEFI at Uvira, in Democratic Republic of the Congo September – Sent 3075 pairs of eyeglasses and frames, gift of the ORO Association in Basel, to CERAB (Rehabilitation Center for the Disabled) in Bangui, Central African Republic November - Optical campaign at Kahf Ensour, province of Khénifra with prior screening by the association of more than 6000 children (210 children fitted with glasses)

2011

January - Paid the salaries of 7 teachers of CEFI at Uvira, in Democratic Republic of the Congo September – Sent 2,000 pairs of glasses and frames to CEFI in Uvira, gift of the ORO Association in Basel October - optical campaign in the province of Missour (Outat Elhaj and Tandite), 130 children provided glasses

2010

January – Paid the salaries of 7 teachers of CEFI at Uvira, in Democratic Republic of the Congo, 45 students February – surgical campgian by Dr. Tritten in Bebalem, Chad – 670 consultation and 64 cataract operations performed March – optical campaign in Morocco in the provinces of Jerrada, Figuig, and Boulemane – 600 children examined, 211 provided with glasses May - optical campaign in Sefrou – 250 children examined, 45 provided with glasses April - significant donation of computer equipment received from the HEP, Teacher Training College, Vaud / Switzerland. June - sent a container with medical and school equipment in collaboration with AlpAtlas and la Chaîne du coeur (Swiss NGOs) November - surgical campaign, Chad – nearly 100 operations performed on people with cataracts and other blinding diseases October - optical campaign in Morocco – 1200 children examined, 310 provided with glasses October - rural school outreach campaign in Morocco for oral hygiene, including the distribution of toothbrushes and toothpaste to 3650 children December - held a stand at the Christmas Market for Solidarity in Lausanne, Switzerland. 2008

January - financed the training of six specialist teachers for deaf children, and paid the one-year salaries of teachers of the Center for Integrated Education and Training (CEFI), a school for blind (12) and deaf (38) children in Uvira, Democratic Republic of the Congo April - surgical campaign, in collaboration with the Ministry of Health and the Hassan II Foundation for Ophthalmolog, in the Hospital of Bouarfa April - optical campaign in Jerrada, Tendrara, and Bouarfa – 101 children provided with glasses June-August - support by Rachida Haimoud for medical treatment at the Eye Hospital of Lausanne

2007

January-July - support for a baby with eye cancer with check-ups and care by the Eye Hospital of Lausanne July - signing of a partnership agreement with the Ministry of Health of Morocco October - optical campaign in the region on Talsint, Beni Tadjite, and Gourrama – 3000 children screened, 527 ophthalmic exams, and 158 glasses provided November - The Althea Foundation receives the Award of Excellence for Sustainable Human Development, awarded by the Swiss-Morocco Foundation for Sustainable Development December - surgical campaign in Kom Ombo, Egypt
